The 2021 award-winning documentary “ela:Breaking Boundaries” was produced and directed by Swapna Kurup and Rohan Sukhdeo. The nearly hour-long film reflects the wide variety of Shah’s practice and is told against the backdrop of her experiences as an Indian American woman, wife, mother, and artist. “ela: Breaking Boundaries” was included in several highly selective US and international film festivals including: the New Jersey Film Festival, Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival, Chicago South Asian Film Festival, Ontario International Film festival, Toronto International Film, and many others.
“ela: Breaking Boundaries'' is also the title of a full-color 9”x9” coffee table book which is now available. Featuring nearly 100 photographs of Shah’s work (from her earliest paintings to her most recent multi-media installation), the book also includes brief commentary by Shah in which she discusses her personal and artistic journey and how she kept her faith in this confused and complicated world. The book has received accolades from well-known critics, writers, and art professionals as well as acclaimed actor and producer Kal Penn.
